Welcome to Prairie Viticulture
Prairie viticulture isn’t just cold-climate viticulture pushed farther west.
It’s shaped by the central plains and upper Midwest — long winters, wind, and sharp seasonal swings that don’t show up in coastal, mountain regions, or the northeast. Prairie Viticulture exists to look at our conditions honestly, using observation, data, and regional experience rather than generic advice.
This site is a working record of what actually happens in prairie vineyards. It pulls together experiments, field notes, history, and conversations with growers who have been doing this for a long time. The focus is on how vines behave over many seasons — not just in good years — and on helping growers make clearer decisions in a demanding climate.
